Every year in the UK, 670,000 tonnes of furniture are thrown away, much of it still perfectly usable. 22 million pieces enter landfill simply because someone redecorated, downsized, or moved home.
Meanwhile, new furniture continues to be manufactured at a huge environmental cost: The UK is the world’s second largest importer of wood, with tens of millions of tonnes imported every year – before a single piece reaches a home.
At Tulip Refurnish, we act to change this cycle. We believe the system is broken – not because of malice or neglect, but because no one built a better alternative. That alternative means turning preloved furniture from worn, slightly broken pieces waiting on the pavement into beautiful, fully refurbished pieces that can affordably make their way into the room of your choosing. This is our mission – to bring sustainability to you, on your terms, without compromise.
Too often, people give up on preloved furniture because they’re not sure what they’re going to get or because of the hassle involved in getting the furniture to them. We solve this by carefully refurbishing and documenting every piece we sell, by affordably shipping and assembling it in your home, and by backing it with generous return and warranty policies.
At the same time, too often, great items are discarded because a leg is loose, the finish is worn, or the style has changed. With skill and care, these pieces can be restored to their best — ready to live beautifully in a new home. Our workshop team takes pride in the methodologies we use and the effort we put into cleaning, repairing, refinishing, inspecting, and documenting each piece with honesty and precision.
